Useful contacts for carers
There is a lot of support here designed to help you take further steps in your search for answers. The first contact about a new problem will probably be your GP (taking the person you care for with you if you can). Our experience is that not all GPs are knowledgeable about mental health issues. You may be asking the difficult question at this point which is:
‘Where do I start when I don’t know what to ask to get help?’
The list of organisations below is in an order starting with those you should find helpful (after your GP) particularly when you expect a quick response. Then there are those that will be helpful when you have a clearer idea of the support you should expect to get.

Carer/Support Organisations
These organisations provide a wide range of support for those looking after people with conditions which often include mental illness but not only for those conditions. They are likely to be helpful if you are not sure what you want and may re-direct you to other organisations who may be able to help. We know many of these organisations.
