Privacy Policy

New Data Protection regulations came into effect on 25th May 2018 and they affect the way we deal with the membership information we have about you. In particular it has required us to tell you about that. As a result we have written a new Privacy Policy and here are some of the questions we answer in the policy.

Why do we collect information about you?

To meet our funding obligations we are required to record our membership which we do through a membership list. Our Constitution provides guidance on when and how we seek personal information about our members. Our information about you is held in a membership database. Having a membership database allows us to:

  • Send you our newsletter
  • Improve the management of our Open Meetings and services
  • Get in touch with you about carer and Carers’ Council developments

When do we collect information about you?

We collect information about you when you complete a Carers’ Council membership form and allow us to record your attendance at our Open Meetings. The membership form provides a Data Protection Assurance statement drawing your attention to this Privacy Policy.

The information we have about you is stored safely and data protected.

What information do we collect about you?

The personal information we collect includes: whether you are a carer or an organisation representative; your name, address and contact details including your email address; and your record of attendance at Open Meetings.

Our information is updated when you tell us about changes and deleted by our Membership Secretary when you tell us you don’t want to stay on the database.

Who has access to your information?

The only people who have access to your information are the Carers’ Council Membership and Newsletter Secretaries. You can access your information at any time by application to the Carers’ Council Chairperson. We do not share your information with anyone outside the Carers’ Council.

  • be informed. This Privacy Policy provides information on how we comply with the legislation.
  • rectification of any of your personal data if it is inaccurate or incomplete.
  • data portability. You have the right to your personal data in a digital or paper copy format.
  • object. You have the right to object to how we process your information.
